Even better than the first. In this volume, Carella continues the galactic war. But in addition, he (or she) is introducing new elements which are very intriguing. Characters are introduced and developed, tactics and weapons evolve, but the main new development is the nature of warp space itself. It is taking on almost supernatural and/or spiritual/occult tones that work surprisingly well with the warp space complications Carella has crafted into his setting, and I am really intrigued.I should add that both books have a few editing errors typical of an indie book. None have been jarring or required stopping to puzzle out the author's meaning, and have been minor enough that I note them only peripherally. If you are one of those people who are hypersensitive to such, then rejoice that this book seems to have fewer than the first. That's subjective though, since they haven't been sufficient in number or severity to really be noticeable to me.
I am very much looking forward to the next book. Carella's writing is definitely a notch above the typical indie space opera.

No Price Too High Warp Marine Corps Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) CJ Carella Guy Williams Fey Dreams Productions LLC Books Reviews
In this series, the author managed the unusual feat of coming up with a plausible explanation of why humans get to be extraordinarily competent soldiers in a galaxy full of armed-to-the-teeth aliens all of whom have similar levels of technology. As with many such examples of SF worldbuilding, it comes logically out of the rubber science needed to make the SF work, pre-eminently FTL travel. It seems that humans, by sheer good fortune, are able to handle the stresses of warp travel much better than the average species.
In the first volume, that was just background to a book written to the philosophy that any page of a Space Marine book is wasted if it isn't combat, the immediate build-up to combat, or occasionally a lull or aftermath. In this volume, it becomes clear that the author is planning to make use of the worldbuilding conceit in his overall arc, which adds some plot and background sophistication to what is still basically a hoorah shoot-em-up adventure in space.
C. J. Carrellla does not disappoint in the latest and greatest chapter of t he life and times of the warp marines. Our hero's become fewer in number but give immeasurably more than they take. Nonstop action with a few breaks for background information is the norm. This war is not for the faint of heart, very hard core battle. Not for young children. The only problem is the wait for the next novel.
"Decisively Engaged" and "No Price Too High" are good pulp fiction and presumably are intended as part of a longer series. As is often the case, Earth discovers that it is a small, relatively backwards and weak member of a populous galaxy in which genocide is not unusual. There are a few friendly species out there, and "uplift" is possible, but bad beings like Lampreys and Vipers are exactly what one would expect. The single advantage humans enjoy is their greater tolerance for warp travel, which allows them to become combat effective more quickly and makes possible their unique tactic of warping marines directly into enemy spaceships. Needless to say, the other side eventually develops countermeasures. By the end of the second volume, things look especially dire, but it may be that Earth has more warp tricks up its sleeve.
There is a suggestion that warp space may contain something of great menace, and our ability may be linked to its emergence. I will be reading this series to see what comes next.
This is really excellent military science fiction. The author's scenario for mankind's place in space is very well thought out, and the military tech is plausible and interesting. The storyline -- mankind's struggle against hostile aliens in a dog-eat-dog universe, is very well done. There is a lot to like in this second novel in the series. Great ending, too.
I reluctantly dung the book one star because at times the plot seemed to become hard to follow, but eventually things sorted out. Make no mistake, this is an excellent, excellent series and I am ready for book 3! RJB.
I recently finished Book 4 and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment. This is a fantastic story that I can't recommend highly enough.
I wanted to make a quick format observation, though. I bought the first book in hard copy mainly because I was travelling and I wanted something to read without having to mess with airport / inflight WiFi. I loved the first installment, but the typos are very much there. Not a lot, and not terrible, but enough where it can take you briefly out of the story. Once I got home I immediately bought the version because two days was too much to wait and a funny thing happened. They typos are still there but they are much less of a nuisance. I'm not generally a fan, but this series has given me a new appreciation for the format.
Action/Battle scenes are so good you can just about smell the smoke, feel the explosions or feel the pull of vacuum. Really great fast paced read that is in depth. Ground pounder and Tank fights, along with being such silly things as "Hull down" like that's a thing. Tank gamers, I'm looking at you. Some good spy stuff, and excellent naval engagements. Not David Weber level interaction/battle scenes but close enough to smell the smoke and still damn good, they get the point across and left me wanting more.
The world building is excellent and builds very well on the first book in the series. The history reads likes something from Lovecraft at times... it's a pretty terrible time in the galaxy for us. Only thing missing are "Cthulhu-oid Entities" And thanks but we really can do with out those. Warp space is bad enough.
After book 1 and the "Days of Infamy" things have gone from unpleasant to really nasty. Major war, 3 enemies attacking, 3 fronts and you probably know how those usually work out.
All is not yet lost, a few tricks to pull out of the hat and things may be save-able, maybe not. Really fast and excellently well done book. I want number 3 now. Is it now yet?
